Our green beans ate growing super slowly. We’re starting to get worried.

Our cucumbers are growing wild as always

And finally…one year later, look what else is growing wildly. Now he wants to ride his bike around the garden or do all the watering himself.

Finishing our planting

Fairytale eggplant in the ground. Yukon gold potato in the ground.  Two different varieties of carrots the ground. Green beans in the ground.  Tomatillo in the ground.

Still forthcoming: Kermit eggplant, when we can find it.  Mulch to put on top of our weed cloth.  But it’s looking good.  Pictures also still forthcoming,  I keep forgetting to take the camera.

Fall bounty!

Things are starting

Our cucumbers are coming up! This is after I thinned them down to just 4 sprouts.

Carrots sprouting – again, this is after I thinned them a bit. They might need more thinning.

Our pepper plants – we started them as seedlings bought at Mahoney’s. Chipotle and poblano this year.

First things in the ground!

We’ve put a kale and chard seedling from Allandale Farms in the ground. We put green bean seeds harvested from last year in the ground. We’re trying cucumber from seed this year (wish us luck!), also from Allandale. And we also picked up seedling herbs: A Thai basil, a rosemary, and a lovage – that last one is brand new to us. I don’t even know what it is, but Kaphine is very excited about it.

Pictures to come.

Garden bounty

First green bean harvest! Plus more Sungold tomatoes, cucumbers, and jalapeños.

First tomatoes, first green beans

image

There were a few more tomatoes but we ate them. Couldn’t help ourselves. They were delicious! These are the Sungold variety.

Hopefully there’s many more green beans to come!

First jalapeño

We’ve harvest our first jalapeño! There’s tons more that are smaller, we left them to get a little bigger. It’s going to be a good pepper year.

Other updates: Our tomatoes are getting bigger, but still looking a little anemic and not blooming much yet. Our eggplants are very productive, and we re just waiting to harvest till they get a little bigger. Our sunflowers are HUGE but haven’t bloomed yet. Green beans are taking over, per usual.

One new development: something ate the tops of our carrots this year, not sure what. But this week, they seem to be growing back. Here’s hoping they survive this year. We’ve never had this problem before.

Things starting to bloom

Eggplant bloom!

Kale and cucumber taking off, as usual!  Our cucumber is already climbing and threatening to take over the garden.  And blooming – and already producing a tiny little cucumber.

Our day lily is blooming!

Our carrots are coming in, we’ve thinned them out some.  And our green beans are climbing up their structure already.

The only thing not taking off right now is our tomato.  Kaphine thinks she may have overamended the soil – she did some reading and added lime and composted cow manure, and then mulched it on top.  It’s not dying, it’s just not growing very much.  The cherry tomato seems to be doing the best right now.

Green bean bounty

This is a bigger green bean harvesting we ever had last year. This is all from one week, our first week of green bean harvesting. I think we may have gotten started harvesting a little later this year, but the great thing about this blog is that I can go back and check that.

Either way, it’s an impressive green bean haul.
